IC Care, in connection with the city of Wheeling and Wheeling 250, will hold the first-ever street fair geared specifically toward people age 65 and older at Heritage Port in downtown Wheeling. The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 12.
"This event is unlike any other event in the Wheeling area," said Tate Blanchard, director of marketing and community outreach with IC Care. "We, at IC Care, participate in health fairs all over the Ohio Valley, but many of them lack the elements of fun and engagement for the participants who take part. That's why we have decided to host the 'Sunset Senior Fair' and we hope the event will become something we will host on an annual basis," Blanchard added.
The event will feature food trucks lining Water Street, vendors who offer services specifically for the older adult population, and free games and entertainment for the seniors who attend.
The evening will end with a free concert performed by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band at the main amphitheater at Heritage Port. Providing entertainment before the U.S. Fleet Forces Band takes the stage will be local music artist Chelsea Matta Householder. She performs a variety of country, oldies and gospel.
In addition to all the entertainment, the Sunset Senior Fair will provide attendees with free health services through a variety of health screenings that will be performed by area medical professionals.
The Sunset Senior Fair is planned as the celebration of he 250th anniversary of Wheeling's founding continues.
Michele Rejonis, marketing, and community relations specialist for the city of Wheeling, said city officials are pleased to partner with IC Care for the Sunset Senior Fair.
She said, "There will be many resources that could be helpful to our senior residents and we hope those attending will also enjoy the entertainment of the U.S. Fleet Forces Band that will perform that evening."
