ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Get ready, brides to be!
All things wedding will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Sunday during the Brides, Brunch & Bands Wedding Show at the James E. Carnes Center at 45300 Roscoe Road.
Hosted by The Intelligencer, Wheeling News-Register and The Times Leader, the show gives brides, grooms, their wedding parties and families ideas on what to wear, where to have a reception, what to eat and much more.
Brides still have time to register online and can do so until noon Saturday at theintelligencer.net or timesleaderonline.com, or on the newspapers' Facebook pages. Admission is free to all brides and grooms. Otherwise, advance tickets are $10 or $12 at the door.
The first 100 brides to pre-register will receive a keepsake wedding folio organizer.
This year's fashion show will be put on by the Dress Collection of St. Clairsville. Cloud 9 Salon & Spa of Martins Ferry is doing the models' hair and makeup for the show.
Other event sponsors include Main Street Bank, Masterpieces of Old Town, Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Country Pride Restaurant, and Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration.
Brides will have a chance to win a vacation to North Myrtle Beach sponsored by Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration, or a trip for two to Seven Springs Mountain Resort that includes two nights' lodging.
"Anyone who comes can be the lucky winner of a vacation giveaway to North Myrtle Beach sponsored by Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration," said Joe Lovell, special events consultant for the newspapers. "That alone is the worth price of admission.
"We're also giving away a trip to Seven Springs," he said. "People can buy extra tickets for a chance to try and win both trips. Extra tickets can also be purchased to try and win auction items. Everybody has a chance to win something from every vendor."
Appetizers by Valley Cheese, Country Pride Restaurant and Kirke's Ice Cream will be offered during the show. Refreshments by Poppa Joe & Co. bartending service, which will offer non-alcoholic drinks, are back by popular demand.
Live entertainment will be provided by the Easy Street band. The room will be decorated by Masterpieces of Old Town, also a vendor for the show.
Jenny Hickenbottom, owner of the Dress Collection and Alterations Etc., said the fashion show will include a variety of styles and sizes of wedding gowns, mother of the bride gowns and some suits and tuxedos for men.
The gowns shown are new and those on consignment at her shop. The gowns shown during the show are the actual dresses that can be purchased at her shop at 122 W. Main St., St. Clairsville.
Bridgette Hardy, owner of Cloud 9 Salon & Spa in Martins Ferry, said she plans to feature a few different hair and makeup styles on the models for the fashion show. She said, however, that her stylists and makeup artists typically take the style of the gown, wedding theme and time of day into account when creating a wedding hairstyle.
She said brides sometimes want a more classic, elegant look, with their hair pulled into a tight bun, while others go for a more bohemian, beachy look. Hardy said she will have four to five stylists/makeup artists working the fashion show.
