ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Two people died over the weekend following two separate automobile crashes in Belmont County.
The St. Clairsville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reports Kyle J. Gatten, 27, of Yorkville, died as a result of a one-vehicle crash, which happened at 12:22 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 70 near mile post 220 in Richland Township.
The report states Gatten was traveling eastbound 2001 Dodge Ram on I-70 when he veered off the right side of the roadway, struck the guardrail and overturned.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, and was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident, according to the report.
Betsy Dodd, 80, of Barnesville, was killed in an earlier accident, which happened at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on Ohio 147 near milepost 11 in Goshen Township.
The crash happened when the driver of a 2010 Kia Forte veered left of center while traveling westbound on Ohio 147.
It struck a 2006 Buick Lucerne driven by Marion Dimmerling, 71, of Barnesville. Both drivers were transported from the scene to Wheeling Hospital.
Dodd, a passenger in Dimmerling's vehicle, was pronounced dead at Wheeling Hospital.
Alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor in the Ohio 147 crash, and all occupants were wearing seat belts, the report stated.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
