KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. -- Police are investigating a fatal accident Monday morning involving a Weirton man.
Police were called shortly after 9 a.m. Monday about a pickup truck, driven by Harvey Sourbeer, 90, of Point Harbor, N.C., which struck and killed Robert Rawlings, 82, who was a pedestrian, at the intersection of U.S. Route 158 and Landing Drive, according to Kill Devil Hills police.
A friend walking with the Rawlings attempted to pull him out of the path of the oncoming pickup truck but was unable to move him in time, police reported.
Rawlings was using the crosswalk and had the right of way, police reported.
