A Mingo County woman indicted earlier this year in the 2017 shooting death of a Louisiana man at a Wheeling hotel has been returned to West Virginia to face a charge of murder.
Freda Faye Davis, 37, of Williamson, was booked Monday afternoon at the Northern Regional Jail after being extradited from Kentucky while being held there in a separate case.
Davis is accused of shooting Terry Lyn Pendergrist Jr. to death on Aug. 22, 2017, during a robbery attempt, court documents indicate. Pendergrist, 39, of Laughton, died after being taken to Ohio Valley Medical Center for treatment, according to the indictment.
Wheeling police said it initially appeared Pendergrist had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a room at the McLure Hotel in downtown, but detectives later determined it was a homicide.
In January, an Ohio County grand jury indicted Davis on one count of murder in the commission of a robbery. Wheeling police did not indicate what led them to Davis or how the two knew each other.
Davis left the area after Pendergrist's death and was convicted of burglary in Kentucky last year. She was serving a four-year sentence at Big Sandy Regional Detention in Paintsville, when she was indicted for Pendergrist's killing in West Virginia.
Wheeling police requested her extradition June 18 and she was transferred this week, just before she was eligible for parole in October.
