WHEELING -- Two people are dead following a head-on collision on W.Va. 2 about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard.
Howard said the accident occurred in the area of where the coal tipple is situated along W.Va. 2. The fatalities involved the drivers of both vehicles; there were no passengers in either vehicle.
"The vehicle's driver was possibly having a medical issue, was traveling northbound, hit the guardrail and went into the southbound lanes and hit a vehicle head-on," Howard said.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
"It's an unfortunate incident that happened," he added.
W.Va. 2 reopened Tuesday evening after sheriff's deputies finished reconstructing the crash.
Howard said the victims' families had been notified, but he had not released their names as of late Tuesday.
