A Sherwin Williams van catches on fire along Interstate 70 West in Wheeling. The fire was extinguished quickly with no injuries.

A Sherwin Williams van caught on fire late Thursday morning along Interstate 70 West in Wheeling, forcing Wheeling Fire and Police departments to temporarily close two westbound lanes to extinguish it.

According to WFD Assistant Chief Eric Cianelli, the driver said the van's brakes weren't feeling right, so he pulled off to the side of the interstate to inspect them. When he got out around 11 a.m. Thursday, he found the front passenger side wheel well on fire.

He tried using a dry chemical fire extinguisher to put out the flame, but it only temporarily suppressed it. The fire rekindled and spread across the hood of the van.

Firefighters arrived shortly afterward and were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No one was injured and all lanes were open again shortly before noon.

Cianelli said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
