Wheeling police respond to a fatal crash Tuesday evening near the intersection of W.Va. 88 and Warden Run Road.

The Wheeling Police Department has released the name of the victim in a single-vehicle fatal crash in Wheeling on Tuesday night.

Hershel Charles Dutton, 68, of Martins Ferry, was the driver of the minivan that went over an embankment and crashed into the creek near the intersection of W.Va. 88 and Warden Run Road. Dutton was transported to Wheeling Hospital where he died. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle. WPD's crash reconstruction unit is continuing to investigate the cause. The road was closed for several hours and reopened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

WHEELING -- The driver of a minivan died Tuesday night after the vehicle crashed near the intersection of W.Va. 88 and Warden Run Road.

According to Wheeling Police Department spokesman Philip Stahl, the crash happened at 7:13 p.m. Tuesday. The minivan was heading south on W.Va. 88 when it went over an embankment and into a stream near Warden Run Road.

The driver was taken to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital where he was then pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation. The victim's identity had not been released as of Tuesday night. W.Va. 88 was closed for several hours as the crash was being dealt with.
