No foul play is suspected with a dead body found near the Ohio River on Wheeling Island.

Wheeling Police Det. Brandon Hoehn said the body of a deceased male was found on the shoreline of the river and was an “obvious DOA.” There were no suspicious circumstances that WPD was concerned about, he added.

The body will be taken to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s office in Charleston for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

Wheeling Police are investigating a dead body found Wednesday morning by the Ohio River near S. Wabash St. near the Interstate 70 bridge.

According to Wheeling Police Department spokesman Philip Stahl, police were dispatched to S. Wabash St. around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after someone reported seeing the body of a deceased male. Wheeling Police and Fire units are currently on the scene.

Stahl said no other information had been released as of Wednesday morning.
