James A Evangelist, born Nov. 8, 1931, in Wheeling WV, died peacefully June 16, 2018, in Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lena; a sister, Marcella; and a brother, Roger.
He is survived by his niece, Sheree Petroplus (husband Bill); and great-nieces, Alyssa and Kristen.
Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a sargent. He, along with his family, were members of St. Joseph's Cathedral and St. Michael's in Wheeling.
Jim graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School and West Liberty State College. He relocated to Cincinnati, OH, where he established Evangelist Commercial Corp., a trucking company based in Fairfield, OH. He was owner/operator until his retirement.
He was an avid skier and golfer and spent much of his retirement helping people with their tax returns. He will be missed by the numerous friends he made over his lifetime, especially Fr. Carl Borelli; Katie Quillin and sons, Chris and Ben; Barbara Marzullo; and his beloved niece, Sheree, her husband, Bill, and their daughters.
A mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at 10 a.m. A burial with military honors will be conducted following mass at Sarasota National Cemetery.
