Remove Ron Walker From Cameron Council

1 min read

Ron Walker's conviction last week on a charge of first-degree sexual abuse gives Cameron City Council no choice but to remove him as one of its members.

Walker was fired previously as Moundsville fire chief.

Council took no action against Walker when he was arrested, with members presumably assuming it was not fair to judge him guilty before a court did so. But last week, that happened in Marshall County Circuit Court. Walker is to be sentenced Feb. 26.

He and his attorneys may decide to appeal his conviction -- but for now, the justice system has determined Walker is guilty as charged.

Council members will meet Monday to discuss the situation. They should not hesitate to initiate proceedings to remove and replace Walker. Convicted criminals facing prison sentences should not be serving on council.

Starting at /week.
