Ziegenfelder Firm Has Many Friends

1 min read

The Ziegenfelder Co., founded in 1861, would be a Wheeling treasure solely on the strength of its success. The firm, with other facilities in Denver, Colo., and Chino, Calif., makes more than 2.5 million of its famous "Budget Saver Twin Pops" every day.

But there are other reasons why many local residents were worried about Ziegenfelder when a three-alarm fire ripped through some of the company's Wheeling facilities on Thursday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Ziegenfelder folks are good people. Starting with President and CEO Lisa Allen, the folks at Ziegenfelder do enormous good -- sometimes of the type other companies shy away from -- in our community. We have written, for example, of their determination to provide second chances for some people with arrest records.

In many ways, including being a major job provider, Ziegenfelder makes our community better.

Here's hoping the firm's recovery is swift and as painless as possible, then. No doubt part of the process for Allen and her "Zieggy Tribe" will be learning they have more friends than they may have imagined.

They do.
