"Just give me this summer," Gov. Jim Justice told a group of Marshall County residents upset about the condition of secondary roads in their county.
Summer is nearing the halfway mark. How is the governor doing statewide?
Earlier in the season, Department of Transportation officials held a press conference to detail the work done to that point on Justice's road maintenance initiative. A gratifyingly large amount of progress, much of it on preliminary work such as ditching and repairing drainage systems, had been accomplished.
West Virginians can get some idea of how the repairs are going in their individual counties by visiting a website set up by the Division of Highways. It is at https://transportation.wv.gov/Pages/Secondary-Roads-Maintenance-Initiative.aspx.
But it is time for another statewide recap. How are major projects such as slip repairs and road repaving progressing? How much money has been spent and how much more work needs to be done?
What is the outlook for completing top priority projects by summer's end? A progress report would be appropriate.
