Writing Blankenship Off as a Candidate
Incumbent U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., or Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will win the Nov. 6 election for the Senate in our state. There can be no reasonable doubt of that.
Coal baron Don Blankenship, who lost the Republican primary to Morrisey, had attempted to get his name on the ballot as a Constitution Party candidate. Last week, the state Supreme Court said no to that.
It has been suggested Blankenship should run as a write-in candidate. For the good of the state, he should not do that. He cannot win. Staying in the race would merely muddy the waters between the two genuine contenders.
