The Democrats have been committed to opposing Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court since Justice Kennedy announced his retirement. Senators Mazie Hirono and Kamala Harris announced their opposition before the nominee's name was released. Almost immediately after his nomination, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer vowed to "oppose Judge Kavanaugh's nomination with everything I have."
Yet Senator Joe Manchin, who claims to be "committed to common sense," remains silent. At what point did we become a nation or a people who prejudge before hearing facts?
Why has Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation become so hostile? While President Trump's last Supreme Court nominee, Justice Neil Gorsuch, had a trying confirmation hearing, nothing in history compares to that which the Democrats have put Judge Kavanaugh through. Much worse, the confirmation attacks have included his family members.
The answer lies in the Democrats' perception that one man, one conservative man, can swing a vote on the seminal case of Roe vs. Wade. Sadly the law simply does not work in that manner. Specific facts, dichotomy in appellate court decisions, and varying state statutes all play a role in whether "the right case" comes before the United States Supreme Court.
After their attempts to challenge Judge Kavanaugh's qualifications fell flat during his confirmation hearing, Democrats have turned up the rhetoric in their vicious conduct to completely destroy Judge Kavanaugh's stellar reputation, built over a long career of public service. The Democrats' fictitious smear campaign against Judge Kavanuagh has undoubtedly proven that Democrats will use whoever or whatever as a partisan tool to accomplish their ultimate goal to keep their own self-righteous power.
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, in her heartbreaking testimony last week, spoke several times about how difficult it was for her to travel to D.C. and to speak publicly about her experience. When asked of her knowledge that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley had offered to come to her in California and interview her privately, Dr. Ford said that she had no idea that Chairman Grassley had made such an offer and would have gladly accepted it.
How could she not know? Does it follow that her attorneys, Democrats and members of the Trump resistance who were recommended by Senator Dianne Feinstein, did not notify her of Chairman Grassley's offer to make her testimony more comfortable for her? Does it likewise follow that the Democrats wanted Dr. Ford to be subjected to the pressure of the public testimony in a packed room with cameras and media? Of course it does. For what reason? To achieve what goal?
To add insult to injury, Senator Feinstein held Dr. Ford's letter for six weeks, when she could have sought a confidential investigation without subjecting Dr. Ford or Judge Kavanaugh to the public scrutiny and threats they (and their families) have needlessly faced in the past few weeks. To be clear, Senator Feinstein had no interest in the truth. She and her cohorts, in desperation to maintain power, sought only to strategically release the information in a manner most harmful to Judge Kavanaugh, without regard to the harm to Dr. Ford.
Interested only in perceived political points, the Democrats are clearly not interested in the truth of the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh. As Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor, Democrats are constantly moving the goalposts. They spent a substantial portion of last week calling for an FBI investigation of the allegations, even a short-term, limited investigation. But now that the FBI is conducting an investigation, Democrats are dismissing the FBI's yet-to-be-released report as partisan and controlled by President Trump. Now they want a lengthy investigation. Where does it end, and at what cost to whom? For the Democrats, it ends when their goal to regain power of Congress is achieved so they can break and divide the Republic known as the United States.
Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we, as citizens of the United States, step up to the plate, register to vote, and vote for what it right, vote for the American way of decency, justice, and respect. Remember which candidates represent these virtues. Remember which candidates take a stance and prove their leadership.
Senator Joe Manchin has a choice. He can join with the rest of the D.C. Democrats in their mindless opposition to doing what is right and oppose the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh. He can lead the charge to vote in favor of Judge Kavanaugh to protect what we as Americans cherish to be right. Conversely, he can prove once again to be a self-preserving, power seeking individual who will join in the persecution and destruction of Judge Kavanaugh at any cost, all while acquiescing in the reprehensible conduct of his Democrat senators.
The people of West Virginia support Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation. A senator elected to be our voice in Washington should vote our West Virginia voice and not one of self-preservation. Patrick Morrisey would carry that torch WITHOUT QUESTION. REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!
