The Ohio Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials honored two of its most prominent officials during Sunday’s season-ending meeting at the White Palace at Wheeling Park — Bob Montgomery and the late Phil Lewton.

Lewton, a member of the board for more than 30 years, was recognized as an honorary lifetime member. Accepting the plaque on his behalf is his wife, Sue, and son, Jack.

The board also honored Lewton by naming the first Phil Lewton Official of the Year Award, given to Bob Schane, not pictured.

Montgomery, right, may be best known as the longtime baseball coach at John Marshall, but the OVAC Hall of Famer has also served the Ohio Valley on the basketball court more than half a century. The board recognized “Monty” for his 54 years of service.
