Wheeling Park Baseball Sweeps Double Header Over Parkersburg South

PARKERSBURG -- Wheeling Park made up for the long offseason with an extra-inning win in its season opener, part of a double-header sweep of Parkersburg South.

Starting pitcher Ben Taylor tossed four frames with five strikeouts and no walks and Trevor Thomas earned the win in extras with two punchouts. Ryan Hummel paced the offense with two hits and a RBI, while James Salvatori and Jacob Shia each recorded a hit and a RBI.

Taylor also knocked in a run.

In the nightcap, Park struck for five runs in the first innning on its way to victory.

Issac Hines earned the win with two strikeouts and no walks.

Shia delivered a single, a double and a RBI. Taylor supplied two hits and a RBI. Thomas garnered a double and two RBI and Maison Richardson added two RBI and a single.

PADEN CITY -- The seniors at Paden City started their final campaign off with a bang.

Trey Slider picked up the win with five strike outs and three walks, while Matt Saxon followed with three punch outs and a walk.

Saxon also delivered a pair of singles and a double at the dish, while fellow senior Ryan Cross provided two hits and three RBI.

Slider and Jordan Stackpole each knocked in runs for the Wildcats.
