PREP ROUNDUP: Trevor Thomas’ Homer Helps Wheeling Park Defeat Meadowbrook in Baseball

BYESVILLE — Trevor ‘Tubes’ Thomas crushed a home run and a double as Wheeling Park edged host Meadowbrook 3-2 on Tuesday.

Seth Hand–in his first varsity start–picked up the win with four strikeouts and three walks in six innings for the Patriots.

Billy Gooch slammed the door in the seventh.

Brock Archer drove in a run on a double and Bryce Bauer added a RBI for Park.

Cameron 13

Clay-Battelle 0

BLACKSVILLE — Noah Neely and Colton Dobbs combined to strikeout 10 as Cameron one-hit Clay-Battelle in a victory.

At the plate, Neely sparked the Dragons with a triple, three singles and three RBI.

Aidan Lucey laced two singles and a double for a RBI, Jessop Broughton turned in a double, a single and two RBI, Trin Scott recorded a triple, a single and a RBI and Garrett Scott added a triple and four RBI.

River 3, Paden City 2

PADEN CITY — Chase Lawrence struck out six and Mark Martie delivered two hits as River edged Paden City.

Carter Dennis garnered a double and a RBI and Hunter Dennis doubled for the Pilots (5-3).

In defeat, Trey Slider fanned 10 in five innings and Clayton Thomas doubled in two runs for the Wildcats (12-9).

Steubneville 5, Edison 1

STEUBENVILLE — Niko Kausky fired a complete game, one-hitter to lead Steubenville over Edison (9-2).

Kausky tallied five strikeouts and drove in two runs for Big Red (9-5).

Dom DeFrances and Calvin Bickerstaff each drove in runs, as well.

Indian Creek 9

Oak Glen 3

WINTERSVILLE — Coy Amis lit up the strike zone as he fanned 12 and led Indian Creek over Oak Glen (6-5).

Tyler Smarella and Josh Speaker each accounted for two singles and Klay Cottis added two RBI and a triple for the Redskins (6-5).

Hundred 16, Harman 3

HARMAN — Gage Boston plated five runs on four hits and Hunter Tustin added two hits as Hundred overpowered Harman.

Christian Fluharty struck out 12 for the Hornets (4-7).

Shadyside 20

Magnolia 3

NEW MARTINSVILLE –Shadyside exploded for 11 third-inning runs in besting Magnolia.

The Blue Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Tigers (13-2) scored once in the second before putting the game away an inning later. Shadyside scored eight more times in the fifth.

Ryan Florence drove in three runs for the Tigers, while Doug Renshaw, Nate Milhoan, Nate Schegg, Mason VanNest and Frank Ripoly each had two.

Eric Allen tossed a two-hitter, striking out six and walking one.

Union Local 12

Bellaire 6

NEFFS — Union Local rallied with four runs in the third inning and went on to double up Bellaire at John Blacker Field.

Cal Kildow singled and plated three runs for the Jets (7-10), while Cody Morrison and Luke Merritt both singled and knocked in two runs. Kolby Smolira laced three singles.

Bobby Roth and Cole Porter each had two singles for the Big Reds (3-10).

CADIZ — Cameron McIntosh tossed a two-hitter, striking out five as Harrison Central improved to 5-6 with a non-conference victory against Tuscarawas Catholic.

Andrew Clelland belted four hits and drove in two runs for the Huskies. Kobe Mitchell added two hits and two RBI, while McIntosh also had two RBI.

Steubenville Catholic 11 Martins Ferry 0

MARTINS FERRY — Matt Bell had a day at the plate and on the mound as he led Steubenville Catholic over Martins Ferry.

Bell fanned eight in a six-inning win and drove in two on two hits. Ryan Gorman added three RBI on one hit.

Madonna 13

East Liverpool 1

EAST LIVERPOOL — A pair of five-run innings lifted Madonna to victory over East Liverpool.

Dom Mazur started and picked up the win for the Blue Dons (11-12). He allowed one unearned run on two hits, no walks and struck out six. Matt Amaismeier led the offense with a single, double and four RBI.

WEIRTON — Sebastian Spencer had two singles, a home run and three RBIs for the Red Riders (8-9) but Weir fell to John Marshall. Elijah Gillette crushed a solo homer. Tyler Komorowski produced a single, double and an RBI.

Toronto 15, Lisbon 5

TORONTO — Nate Karaffa’s big day led Toronto over Lisbon.

Karaffa finished with three singles, a double and six RBI.

SOFTBALL

Magnolia 4, River 3

HANNIBAL — Ashley Tharp struck out eight, recorded two doubles and drove in two to lead Magnolia over River.

Lindsay Whiteman contributed two hits and a RBI for the Blue Eagles (11-3), while teammates Paige Brill and Shy White each added two hits.

Livi Rose paced the Pilots (6-5) with a double, two singles and a RBI and Jonayah Moeller supplied two hits.

Valley 11, Paden City 0

PADEN CITY — Olivia Scyoc laced a triple and two singles for three RBI and Megan Brown tallied three hits as Valley shut down Paden City.

Sydney Bucher provided a single, a double and two RBI, while Jamie West drove in one on two hits and Shyanne Moore plated three on a hit for the Lumberjills (6-9).

Shadyside 13

Steubenville Catholic 0

SHADYSIDE — Izzy Swords tossed a 5-inning no-hitter as Shadyside rolled past visiting Steubenville Catholic.

Swords struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. Only an error kept her from being perfect.

Madison Davis drove in three runs with a single and two doubles, while Kiley Jo Baker added a pair of two-baggers that also knocked in three runs. Tori Hendershot and Holly Butler had RBI doubles.

MORRISTOWN –The Jets (3-9) put a damper on the Bobcats (8-6) OVAC Class 4A playoff hopes as Keira Gregor had a two-run double.

Rylee Magnani singled and tripled to drive in a run, while Taylor Powell chased in a run with two singles. Hannah Merritt singled in a run and Emilee Robb doubled.

Kaden Mercer picked up the win inside the circle with six strikeouts in five innings. Bailey Rinkes earned the save.

Monroe Central 15

WOODSFIELD –The Seminoles (9-6) kept their OVAC Tom Bechtel Class AAA playoff hopes alive as they pounded out 17 hits and scored 11 times in the bottom of the fourth at City Park.

Alle Zwick accounted for four RBI with three singles and a double. Shaylei Giesey singled and doubled twice to knock in three runs. Kaitlyn Matz also drove in three runs with a double and home run. Liz Roderick singled, tripled and plated a run. Sydney Yoho had two singles and a run batted in. Regan Hamilton doubled in a run and Kalista Friday doubled.

WINTERSVILLE — Kaydee Kinsey picked up her seventh win as Indian Creek defeated Brooke.

Kinsey fired eight strikeouts without allowing a walk.

Megan Kelley and Taylor Scott each belted two-run homers for the Redskins.

Steubenville 13

Parkersburg South 2

PARKERSBURG — Steubenville had an offensive explosion and defeated Parkersburg South.

Stef Blackburn, who picked up the victory for Big Red, went the distance and struck out three. Madison Fields had three hits, two walks and three RBI. Sam Cucarese produced two hits and three RBI. Maggie Cucarese finished with three hits.

Madonna 11

Conotton Valley 3

WEIRTON — Madalena Daugherty pitched and hit the Madonna softball team to victory over Conotton Valley.

Daughery picked up the win and went the distance, striking out three and walking none. Offensively, she had a single, double and a RBI.

Oak Glen 10

Beaver Local 2

NEW MANCHESTER — Oak Glen defeated Beaver Local as Janaya Montgomery picked up the complete-game victory, walking two and striking out four in the process.

Lisbon 20, Toronto 7

TORONTO — Eleven fielding errors cost Toronto during its defeat to Lisbon.

The Blue Devils also got to Toronto (9-4) starter Jamie Anderson. She took the loss, walking two and striking out two. Riley Kinsey pitched the final 2 2/3 innings.
