STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Drug Task Force took four people into custody Monday after allegedly intercepting a large shipment of drugs into the community.

Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said charges are pending against Christie Franklin Oxley, 33, Bridge Burke, 38, and Bryant Rose, 44, all of Steubenville, and Shaylene Johnson, 32, of Follansbee.

The arrests followed “an extensive investigation” by the task force, Capt. John Lemal said.

“Detectives learned of a large amount of drugs being transported from Las Vegas … to Jefferson County,” Lemal said in a release. In coordination with the Ohio State Highway Patrol criminal patrol division, he said they stopped two vehicles suspected of transporting the drugs on Ohio 7 near Rush Run Road.

“Two Ohio State Highway Patrol K-9s were utilized to be alert to the vehicles,” he said. “Drug task force detectives then searched the vehicles and seized over two kilos of cocaine.”

The Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force also assisted the investigation, he added.

Rose remained in custody at the Jefferson County Justice Center Tuesday evening, though the three women were released.
