MOUNDSVILLE — Marshall County residents looking to clean out their basements or attics of unwanted items can do so this October and November during the Marshall County Solid Waste Authority’s annual Fall Dumpster Cleanup.

Residents can use any of the following sites to get rid of their items between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.:

Oct. 3-4 – Sam Shaw Walking Trail, Moundsville, and the City Garage in Glen Dale;

Oct. 10-11 – Benwood’s old City Maintenance Garage and the old football field in McMechen;

Oct. 25 – Hilltop Elementary School in Sherrard and the U.S. 250 VFD Headquarters in Limestone; and

Nov. 1 – VFD Headquarters at Roberts Ridge and the Cameron Elementary School.

The authority will not take certain items including household trash, tires, scrap metal, car parts, fuel or hazardous chemicals or materials, or “white goods” such as refrigerators, stoves or similarly large electrical items.

TVs are accepted at the Dumpsters.

Meanwhile, the authority is hosting a separate Electronics Recycling event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at John Marshall High School’s North Parking Lot.

Items that can be brought include car tires and light truck tires 17 inches or smaller, white goods, electronics, computers, air conditioners, humidifiers and dehumidifiers.

TVs will not be accepted during this event.

Residents should be prepared to show proof of residency in Marshall County.

Howard Coffield, director of the Marshall County Solid Waste Authority, said the authority typically ends up collecting 2,500 to 3,000 tons of electronics during the E-Recycling event. About six tons of white goods are collected and up to 3,000 tires.

He noted the authority uses a separate company to remove the freon from the white goods so it does not end up in the landfill.

Starting at $2.99/week.
