Walk-In Health Provider MedExpress Sold to Optum
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – Health services company Optum has acquired walk-in medical care provider MedExpress.
Media outlets report that terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Optum announced the sale earlier this month.
It is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group Inc., the nation’s largest health insurer. Optum provides information technology services and pharmacy benefits management.
Optum said the acquisition will simplify MedExpress patient access to health resources and treatment options, including wellness and prevention, prescriptions, blood work, imaging and lab services.
MedExpress operates 141 neighborhood medical centers in 11 states and plans to open 25 to 30 additional centers this year. It has 23 locations in West Virginia, including two in Wheeling and one in Weirton.
“MedExpress has set the highest standards of care quality, convenience and compassion for patients in the communities it serves,” said Optum CEO Larry Renfro said in a statement. “We look forward to working with MedExpress to build on the exceptional care and services it provides today, and to expanding this progressive and successful approach to care to more communities across the country.”
MedExpress spokeswoman Kelly Sorice said the company will retain its administrative offices in Morgantown and Canonsburg, Pa. The company was founded in Morgantown in 2001.
