Ohio County Property Tax Forms Have Been Mailed

WHEELING — Next year’s property tax forms have been mailed to Ohio County residents, and there is an opportunity for those who drive a lot to see a discount.

The 2025 forms are the same as received in past years, and taxpayers are asked to sign off on what property they owned as of July 1, 2024. This includes vehicles, aircraft, boats, antique vehicles, mobile homes, camping trailers, motorcycles, snow mobiles, ATV’s and personal watercraft.

Leased vehicles do not need to be reported.

There is also a section to list dogs owned so that tags can be issued. Breeding age sheep and goats also need to be recorded on the tax form.

Also, any new construction or deletions to real estate property must be indicated on the form.

These forms must be returned to the Ohio County Assessor’s Office before Oct. 1.

“If you didn’t get it in the mail, you need to come in the office to get one,” explained Ohio County Assessor Tiffany Hoffman. “Downstairs there is a drop-off box, upstairs (on the second floor outside the assessor’s office) there is a drop-off box, or you can mail them in.”

There is also a section for residents to seek a “high mileage discount” on vehicles they own. For example, if a 2024 model car has more than 15,001 miles on its odometer, a discount could be in order.

Likewise a 2018 car with 90,001 or more miles could be eligible for a reduction, as would a 2010 vehicle with 165,001 or more miles. Car models older than 2009 receive no discount.

The Ohio County Assessor’s Office will host clinics and do high mileage check points in the upcoming days and weeks. Those seeking the tax reduction must take their forms to certified inspection stations, where “actual miles and any rolled over miles” must be recorded.

The checkpoints are happening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. weather permitting at the following locations:

– Aug. 1: Warwood School

– Aug. 21: Valley Grove Community Center

– Aug. 28: West Liberty

– Sept. 11: The Highlands

– Sept. 18: The Highlands

– Sept. 25 The Highlands

“We just have to verify the mileage,” Hoffman explained. “We look at the mileage, and sign off that it’s right.”

Those who paid their 2023 property income taxes prior to deadlines will be eligible for the first time to have their vehicle property taxes rebated when they file their tax forms in 2025.

As for the 2024 taxes, the first half year of payment is due by Oct. 1 for those who intend to see their tax payment rebated with their state income tax return in 2026. The second half is due by April 1, 2025.

Starting at $2.99/week.
