NEW CUMBERLAND – Hancock County Schools will be closed today.

According to a statement released by Superintendent Dan Enich late Tuesday, all schools in Hancock County will be closed “because of security reasons.”

School administrators will be meeting with law enforcement officials today concerning “current security matters.”

The decision follows a threat made at Weir Middle School Monday, involving a sixth-grade student at the school. Other threats, primarily made through social media, have been made at other schools throughout the Ohio Valley this week.
