MOUNDSVILLE — The Marshall County Commission has earmarked $1.4 million in its fiscal year 2026 budget to assist with the construction of four new two-bedroom style cabins at Grand Vue Park.

Grand Vue is working with OMNI Associates, Architects Inc., on the project. The design phase is projected to be completed in time for an early spring 2026 construction, with the cabins available for rental by April 2027.

The final cost of the cabins will not be determined until the project is out to bid.

Two of the cabins will be elevated and located near the treetop villas. The other two cabins will be located at ground level and situated alongside the rest of the park’s traditional cabins.

“The idea for the design of the cabins is to appeal to small families for that quick husband-and-wife-type getaway,” Grand Vue General Manager Craig White said. “The treetops won all kinds of awards when they were built and designed, so we’re hoping for the same for these cabins.”

White said four cabins will contain the same amenities as the other cabins at the park, including hot tubs and “all the comforts of home.” White added that the cabins will not require additional staff to manage them.

“The idea is to increase the amount of revenue that we bring in to help minimize the help and the need that we have with the county commission,” White noted.

The construction of the cabins is part of the 2021 update to Grand Vue’s master plan, with the 2015 update including the addition of treetop villas to the park. The four cabins will increase park revenue by accommodating an additional 1,460 overnight visits each year.

“One of the ways that we can help sustain ourselves is by adding lodging to the park,” White said. “We’ve got a master plan to add a lot more lodgings, so this is a way to continue to do that. When we added the treetop villas in 2015, we planned for six more cabins, so we’re able to add four now at this time, thanks to the county commission.”

Commission President Scott Varner said that helping to construct revenue-building amenities at the park was one of the commission’s priorities. He said additional facilities, such as the cabins, the RV park and the Events Center, help the park become financially stable, which allows Grand Vue to offer more programs and services.

Varner said the commissioners worked this year during the budget process to earmark the $1.4 million to assist with the construction of the cabins. He added they had “nothing but praise” for the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board, White and Grand Vue staff, noting the cabins would be a “tremendous addition to the park.”

“Over the years, we have always tried to do things to help enhance and grow the park,” Varner said. “When Grand Vue leadership and the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board sought to implement additional aspects of their master plan, it gave us the ability as a commission to see their plan and then provide funding to get it completed. It’s a great thing for the county and does help economic development.”

The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board President Leigh Ann Scherich expressed gratitude to the commissioners for their support of Grand Vue’s master plan. She noted that the Board consistently considers both community members and visitors when introducing new amenities.

“Without the commissioner’s unwavering commitment and continued support of Grand Vue, we would not be able to offer the improvements we have been able to offer,” Scherich said. “We also would not be able to give amazing experiences to not only the citizens of Marshall County, but visitors as well.”

White commended the commissioners on their commitment to the park’s master plan and emphasized that the new cabins would enable them to welcome and serve even more guests.

“The commission has been helping us since 1974, and it’s an ongoing effort,” White said. “Without their support, we don’t exist, so this has been phenomenal. This project is a lot more difficult to accomplish without them, so it really helps.”
