Easterseals Rehabilitation Center in Wheeling knows everyone loves pizza, and its current fundraiser is designed to capitalize on those cravings. Easterseals is hosting an online fundraiser and several in-person events to help celebrate Pizza Party Day on Friday, May 15. All proceeds will be used to help the 89-year-old nonprofit provide life-changing medical rehabilitation therapies, medical services, and autism testing for Ohio Valley children. WHEELING – Several candidates on ballots across the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia cruised to easy victories Tuesday night as they ran unopposed. Those securing party nominations during the primary will appear on the ballots again during the general election in November. The West Virginia House of Delegates will have a new member in its next session, as Doddridge County resident Steven Smith defeated incumbent Del. Bill Bell in the Republican primary Tuesday night. There was no Democratic nominee for that seat, so Smith will advance to the House. Smith defeated Bell in a district that includes Doddridge, Wetzel and Tyler counties 1,232-937 in the unofficial count. There will be one new -- and young -- face on the Wetzel County Board of Education, as Devon Tennant defeated incumbent Christine Nice on Tuesday in their election in Wetzel County. Tennant upended Nice 1,044-813. A 2023 graduate of Magnolia High School, Tennant is a student at Bethany College who also serves as an assistant funeral director in Hundred. Jeff Davis captured a seat on the Tyler County Commission, defeating Steven Weigle on Tuesday in the Republican primary. There was no Democratic candidate, so Davis will advance. Davis, a lifelong Tyler County resident, recently retired as treasurer and chief school business officer for the Tyler County Board of Education. WELLSBURG — Incumbent Brooke County Commissioner Stacey "Hukill" Wise is on her way to another term. Wise, a Follansbee resident, defeated Kevin Himmelrick in Tuesday's Republican primary. She received 601 votes, while Himmelrick collected 564 votes, according to unofficial results from the Brooke County Board of Elections.
