KAREN BURGESS
Karen Burgess, 85, of Bridgeport, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Park Health in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
She was born on April 10, 1940, in Glen Dale, West Virginia a daughter to the late Andrew and Lillian (Gorby) Garvonic.
Karen dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She served at Reynolds before concluding her career at Columbus West, where she left a lasting impact on her colleagues and patients alike. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her work into her personal life, where she shared her passions and warmth with family and friends.
A Catholic and member of St. Jude in Glen Dale, West Virginia, Karen found strength and community in her faith. Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, she was an avid sports enthusiast, known for her unwavering support of the Steelers and WVU. She also found joy in the simple pleasures of crocheting and cherished every moment spent with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Eleanor Knight, Andrew Garvonic, Patricia Castilow, and her loving step-mother, Jake Garvonic.
Karen leaves behind her loving daughters, Sherri (Kevin) DeNault of Huber Heights, Ohio, Amy (Curt) Hamilton of Bridgeport, Ohio, and Barbara Ann Burgess of Cameron, West Virginia; grandchildren, Tiffany (Austin) Lundberg of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rose (Aaron) Demoplied-Racine of Concord, Michigan, Ashley Hamilton of Bridgeport, Ohio, Jewel (Gage) Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, Josie Purpura of Barton, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Owen Lundberg, Harper Wilson; and sister, Vicky (Ernie) Valade of Michigan.
While no formal services will be held, a celebration of Karen’s life will take place at a later date, allowing her family and friends to gather and honor her memory. Karen’s generous spirit and enduring love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Arrangements have been entrusted to CARE Funeral and Cremation Specialists 204 W. Main Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
