PAUL EDWARD WETZEL

He was born May 19, 1949, son of the late James and Mary Fitzsimmons Wetzel.

Paul was a US Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a devout Catholic, attending services at St. Michael’s and St. Joseph’s. He worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel as a steel worker for over 20 years and was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 1. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, David Paul Wetzel and Paul Daniel Wetzel; and brothers, James Wetzel and Joseph Wetzel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Iris Janene DeLong Wetzel; daughter, Gina (Nolan) Russell; grandchildren, Jacob (Emmie) Wetzel, Tyler (Sarah) Wetzel, Tayler Trenton, and Danielle (Preston) Estep; great-granddaughter, Wrenley Wetzel; daughter-in-law, Marcey Wetzel; brothers, Thomas Wetzel and Martin (Carol) Wetzel; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 5 PM – 8 PM at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Rd., Wheeling (304-232-2732). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Rd., Wheeling, with Father Lusius (Luis) Mite as celebrant.

Interment to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
