City Water Department To Be Commended for Work
Editor, News-Register:
While many communities in the Ohio Valley have experienced “water woes” in recent months, Wheeling has been able to avoid those calamities. That is made possible by the quality employees and managers employed by the city of Wheeling, in particular the water department.
Here is an example:
During the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 31 (Labor Day weekend), there was a major water line explosion on National Road near Mount Calvary Cemetery. A “river of water” was gushing down National Road. Pavement buckled and driveways were damaged.
Before 7 a.m., Water Department employees were on scene to repair the rupture. By mid-afternoon, service was restored to the affected area. The attention to the situation was remarkable and the affected households were very appreciative — 15 households in the Westminster Condominiums.
Surely the employees would have rather spent the day with their families on the holiday weekend, but they responded when needed. They are to be commended for that. The Water Department management should be recognized for its direction and training of their employees to respond when needed.
As we anticipate a water rate increase, it is encouraging to know we are supporting an organization that responds in a manner these employees did on Aug. 31.
