Editor, News-Register: My granddaughter, Sarah, just graduated high school. She’s a good student, raised by two “mothers” who have given her a bright future. When Sarah was a toddler, her mother worked in a local school. “Maria” was hired as nanny-caretaker. She became Sarah’s second mother. After Sarah started school, Maria continued visiting weekly, as a job, housecleaning for my daughter. She also visited on holidays, not as a job, but a family member. Time for Wheeling To Rescind User Fee

Editor, News-Register: Is the $2 user fee still in effect in Wheeling? If it is, what is it now used for? It was voted down for the proposal at the parking lot on Market Street across from the Market Plaza. Council went ahead and instituted the fee anyway and then built a garage on Market Street anyway. The matter should have been dropped! With the economy the way it is, $8 extra each month for those living on a fixed income and working in Wheeling could be a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk for them and their family. Editor, News-Register: For way too long, the average person in Jefferson County has not had a voice in their community. I discovered this several years ago when my work as a local activist put me in touch with men, women, children, workers of all kinds and even political leaders. Editor, News-Register: My heart goes out to my hometown of Wheeling in the overwhelming events of the June 14 flooding. No words can express the damage, loss of life and shock of having to start over. Wheeling is strong and courageous and God is there now with you all. I put you on the prayer list at the Vatican.
