Standing Up for our Downtown

Editor, News-Register: Kudos to Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration for their imaginative, “Conquer the Cones” initiative. It would be wonderful if more businesses, not directly impacted by downtown construction, would step up and contribute to the program or develop one of their own. It would also be greatly appreciated if the city would publish a weekly downtown detour update. Maps and instructions could be posted on social media and in the newspaper. Editor, News-Register: The main and important question in the development of the Gateway Center needs to define the basic objectives of the project. Who will utilize the center? And when? Visitors traveling through? Residents of Wheeling? Residents of the whole valley? Will it be a destination or strictly transitory establishment? What percent of its management finances will it provide? And how? What features of the city will be displayed? And how? Residents Helping One Another

Editor, News-Register: Thank you to all who helped make the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Annual Food Drive a success. I am truly grateful for all the residents who generously donated, all the companies, schools, and groups who donated food items or made monetary donations, for the entities that acted as “donation stations” where the community members could drop off donations, and for the stores that ran in-store food collections.
