Editor, News-Register: I disagree with comments made by West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore and GOP chairwoman Elgine McArdle at a so-called victory in unity reception. Mr. Moore wants to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education, while Chairwoman McArdle states that the city of Wheeling needs a major overhaul, and needs to be uprooted. Whatever that means. Editor, News-Register: I feel it necessary to share my thoughts about the upcoming deer culling. Oglebay Resort is planning on conducting a deer culling for three days in early November. For those of you unfamiliar with the term culling, the dictionary defines culling as “ a mass slaughter of a specific targeted animal population”, in this case, deer. Editor, News-Register: I can’t begin the describe my frustration at the Moundsville DMV. I went in with my Colorado driver’s license and my car to change my residence with the DMV. I drove 10+ miles, returned home, went back to the DMV and had to return home, empty handed. I am 77 years old and a 56-year spouse of a Navy veteran. Fix Safety Concern Near Park

Editor, News-Register: I can’t imagine I am the only one who feels the need for a guardrail along the lower portion of Sonneborn Road and beside the Wheeling Park swimming pool area. Most of the trees that offered any protection at all from wayward vehicles have been cut down due to age, or the storm that blew through last summer took down the rest — thus, leaving a big open space that should be looked at diligently. Safety for Bus Riders Paramount

Editor, News-Register: I am writing as a rider on the buses. There is always a homeless man sleeping on the bench. He is constantly there. He leaves his blanket and pillow. No one can sit on this bench ... because he is living on it! Can someone look into this? Can he go to a shelter to sleep? These benches are here to sit while waiting on the bus.
