Thomas Sullies Court’s Standing

Editor, News-Register: Does it not now, sadly, appear that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas may well be the most compromised, or perhaps corrupt, member of that August body that, until recently, had been perhaps the most highly respected institution in the history of our great nation? This is a result of Justice Thomas’ reported acceptance of the payment of his personal travel expenses and accommodations for over two decades from billionaire conservative mega-donor Harlan Crow, which went unreported by the Justice, that amounted to “millions of dollars.” In ...

Mooney Right Choice for Senate

Editor, News-Register: As a fourth-generation coal miner who has worked in the industry for many years, I am proud of the work that I and many others have done to mine the coal that builds and powers our country. However, the headlines that have come out about Jim Justice and his embarrassing treatment of his own workers are deeply concerning. The Justice family has operated coal mines in our state for decades and has boasted billion-dollar profits, but they leave their own workers behind. The ones who gave them their wealth. When I read that Justice failed to pay over six years ...

Reconsider Hunt at Oglebay

Editor, News-Register: Can you educate me how death by a bow and arrow is humane for exterminating the deer population at Oglebay Resort? How high is the probability deer death by bow and arrow is instant and humane? What is the frequency of watching the deer bleed out to finally die or take off running for their life, arrows sticking out of its body? How safe is deer meat to eat ...

Is the answer at the ballot box? R. M. Rine Wheeling

Time for Left and Right to Unite

Editor, News-Register: If one watches Fox News, Newsmax, listens to talk radio, or subscribe to a conservative news podcasts, you’d swear the public education system has ruined the USA along with the epidemic of fatherless homes over the past 50-plus years. I don’t think I have to explain to those on the conservative side or liberal side, who happen to be in favor of the way the nation is going, the changes over the past six decades in how academia has changed our country. On the other side of the political spectrum, the Left sticks to blaming climate change, capitalism, and the ...

Unfairness in Ohio’s Family Court

Editor, News-Register: As a police officer in the city for several years, I never gave it much thought about what went down behind closed doors. I did my job and went back to work, never worrying about how the victims may feel. Today, I now understand how the victims felt and feel. Not in a criminal case, but in family court where I am a victim. Here in Jefferson County, defense and prosecuting attorneys are all buddies. They are more concerned about sipping their drinks together rather than actually helping clients. And trust me, these attorneys will do anything to avoid the ...
