Wouldn’t it be a nice retirement gift to Dottie Thomas, who is retiring as director of the Ohio County Public Library, if the Board of Education would restore the thousands of dollars it took from the Library’s budget?

What is Sen. Manchin’s plan to address climate change?
Surely he knows that emission reductions of 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2050 are our best hope to prevent the most devastating consequences of a warming planet. Surely he knows that West Virginia is at risk for catastrophic flooding, and that recent research shows that West Virginia’s geography actually makes it the most vulnerable state in the whole nation to climate-caused flood damage. Surely the senator knows that West Virginia’s long-term economic health depends on investment in the energy sources ...

As the country continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s crucial lawmakers and the public remember research into other diseases beyond COVID must continue. That’s why I recently took part in a virtual event where I met with Senators Shelley Capito and Joe Manchin and Congressman David McKinley as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. One of West Virginia’s largest issues is that young people like myself are leaving the state after college because they are unable to find good jobs here, especially jobs that have our future in mind.
Budget reconciliation has become a ray of hope for us youth to remain in West Virginia. Even West Virginia University president, Dr. Gordon Gee, is concerned, saying “I’ve joked about the ...

Bravo and congratulations Swank Construction! Not only are you doing an excellent job refurbishing our bridges, you are completing it ahead of schedule. In the past, the Ohio Valley has been tortured by so many never-on-time construction companies. It is wonderful when a company actually surpasses expectations. I hope those writing future construction contracts will take notice. It would certainly make sense to reward companies, like Swank, that obviously take pride in their work and in completing the task on time. It also makes sense to include a clause in ...
