Countering Writer’s 9/11 Narrative

Editor, News-Register: The Wheeling News-Register published an insidious Letter to the Editor on 9/5/21 entitled, “Teaching 9/11 to America.” It had less to do with teaching than to slander our country, its leadership, and Israel. Throughout it are tropes such as “Jewish lobbyists planned the invasion of Iraq,” that White House advisor Richard Clark “questioned why the American people should foot the bill, in blood and treasure, for Israeli security,” and “To keep Israel safe, the U.S. government ensured that Saudi rulers were chosen from families to do what we ...

Fort Henry Days 2021 Was a Success

Editor, News-Register: The 24th Fort Henry Days was a huge success. The weather on Saturday was fantastic with comfortable temperatures. We dodged light showers on Sunday but all in all it turned out to be a great weekend both for the re-enactors and the large crowd of people that turned out to witness Fort Henry Days which was held at Oglebay Park over Labor Day weekend. The annual Fort Henry Days started in 1997 in downtown Wheeling and quickly outgrew that space moving to Oglebay where we celebrate recreating a chapter of Wheeling’s history for the public. The Board of ...

Thanking Manchin

Editor, News-Register: I want to thank our West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin for his common sense approach on the budget reconciliation bill being pushed by the democrats. The infrastructure bill of $1.2 trillion is fine and needed. The $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill that the Democrats want is not fine and not needed. The Democrats don’t seem to care a thing about our national debt. We citizens including our children and grandchildren owe $85,000 each for national debt, thanks to our irresponsible elected officials. All of these spending bills being pushed by the Democrats ...

Bridge News Great

Editor, News-Register: I was quite pleased upon learning the news that the historic Wheeling Suspension Bridge, which has been closed to all vehicular traffic since September 2019, will in the relatively near future be undergoing reconstructive repair work, which is scheduled for completion circa June 30, 2023. It has recently been announced that Advantage Steel and Construction LLC has been awarded a $17,907,147 contract by the West Virginia Division of Highways for the renovation, which will eventually lead to the reopening of the iconic structure. Very welcomed news ...

Rudy Giuliani’s Fall From Grace

Editor, News-Register: Is it not quite sad to witness the professional degeneration of Rudy Giuliani, who served quite admirably in the position of mayor of New York City, earning him the moniker of “America’s mayor” as a result of his laudatory leadership on response to the horrific terrorist attack on New York City and our great nation nearly 20 years ago, on Sept. 11, 2001? Mr. Giuliani, who served as mayor of New York City from 1993-2001, had a very successful career as an attorney at law, including serving admirably as a federal prosecutor for the Southern District of the ...

Have We Learned Anything?

Editor, News-Register: “The price of Liberty, and even common humanity, is Eternal Vigilance.” This is Aldous Huxley’s adaption of the Eternal Vigilance quote, 1956. Unfortunately, we are witnessing exactly the opposite of this truly American guiding principle today. On this 20th anniversary of the darkest day in modern American history, I have to wonder if we’ve learned anything, remember anything, feel anything. Vigilance means to keep careful watch for possible dangers, NOT to arm our adversaries while disarming ourselves. “They took all the footage off my ...
