Marshall Memo: A West Virginia Day Scavenger Hunt; and Events
The Mound Museum and Marshall County Public Library will sponsor a Scavenger Hunt on West Virginia Day –Thursday, June 20. Those who plan to participate will need to pick up their map from the Mound that will show the places to visit. Once there, read the sign for the information to answer the clues. Once they have completed all the 11 locations, they are to go to the library on the main floor, where the staff at the desk will check over the answers, and kids will receive a prize.
On June 18th at the Moundsville-Marshall County library, a program “Dinosaurs with Carnegie Science Center will be held at 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

While of the subject of libraries, Benwood-McMechen and Cameron locations will have special events in June.
Benwood-McMechen Public Library will present “WV Day Mothman Pre-K Storytime and Craft” at 2 p.m. Thursday for ages 2-5. Registration will be required. At 2 p.m. on June 18 Dinosaurs with the Carnegie Museum of National History will be presented at the Housing Authority of Benwood.

At the Cameron Library there will will three events June 17-19.
“Take a Trip to the Mountains” with Sandra O’Neil at 1p.m., on June 17; “Explore the North Pole” with Sarah Smith at 1 p.m. on June 18; and “Join Amy O’Neil and Make Your Own Adventure!” on Wednesday, June 19.

Other events taking place in Moundsville and Marshall County over the next two weeks include: Marshall County Farmer’s Market which is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at the Marshall County Fairgrounds.
Twilight Tour of the former WV Penitentiary on Saturday June 15 from 7-10 p.m. This three-hour experience is for guests 13 and older.
Fireworks Display at Grand Vue Park at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m) today, June 15th as part of the Park’s 50th year.
Sunday Brunch in the Rose Garden at the Palace of Gold from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Advanced reservations are suggested at www.palaceofgold.com
Moundsville Community Day is Sunday, June 16 at the Riverfront Park on 13th Street from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Guests will enjoy a Car Show, Live Music, Cornhole Tournament, Vendors, Food Trucks and a Pepperoni Roll Cookoff.
History Mystery Monday Tour of the former West Virginia Penitentiary. Tickets are available for this special Monday only tour, and can be purchased at the site gift shop or online in advance at www.wvpentours.com
Yoga with Emily is held every Monday from 6 p.m. to 7p.m. in the Grand Vue Park’s main banquet hall. Additional details are available at GrandVuePark.com
On June 18th there will be aGrand Vue Park Family Fun Night at the Red Barn with outdoor games and activities.
Everyday Wednesday from 3 p.m-6 p.m. the Cockayne Farmstead will host a community farmers market. Guests can purchase local produce, baked goods, handmade items and more from artisans and gardeners from the Marshall County area.

The Marshall County Family Resource Network will again partner with the Mountaineer Food Bank for a Mobile Food Pantry serving Marshall County residents.
The pantry will be open from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Four Seasons Pool at 300 Mulberry Ave., Moundsville. Families will be invited to drive up and receive a food box that will be placed into their vehicle. One food box will be given per family while supplies last.

The monthly Marshall County Chamber of Commerce’s Business After of Hours will take place at 5 p.m., on June 20 at the Moundsville Health Care Center.
This special gathering aims to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s and dementia-related illnesses on the longest day of the year.
There will be food, music and networking opportunities.

The annual Marshall County Spring Clean-Up will close out next week.
There are three locations today, June 15, at Rosby’s Rock (Coal Mine Parking Lot), Roberts Ridge at the VFD Headquarters, and River Sweep (Riverfront Park in Moundsville). All three locations will have hours from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The final locations next week will be in Cameron at Cameron Elementary and in downtown Glen Easton also from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents from anywhere in Marshall County are welcome to use any of the locations. There are no provisions for tires, white goods, scrap metal, car parts, fuels, hazardous chemical or household trash.
