Weir, Linsly Playing Thursday; Wheeling Park And Big Red Headline Friday

PARKERSBURG – After watching their Ohio counterparts open the high school football season last week, West Virginia will kick things off this week.

A pair of Mountain State games get the season started tonight as Weir visits New Manchester to meet Oak Glen in the Battle of Hancock County and Linsly treks to Pittsburgh to meet Westinghouse in Homewood.

On Friday, action swings into high gear with five locals taking the field for the first time as Wheeling Central visits Linside to meet James Monroe at the H. E. Comer, Jr. Sports Complex; Wheeling Park heads to the Erickson All-Sports Facility in Parkersburg to meet South in an all-Patriots battle; Cameron treks to Richmond and the Edison Unified Sports Complex to meet the Wildcats (0-1); John Marshall heads to meet Marietta (1-0) to meet the Tigers inside Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College; and Brooke unveils the Casey Goff Era by traveling to Lisbon to meet Beaver Local (0-1) on Pastore Field. Marietta squeaked by Morgan, 13-12; Edison dropped a 42-40 shootout at Shenandoah in its opener, while Beaver Local lost 41-7 to Struthers.

In Ohio, four local teams will seek 2-0 starts, those being Harrison Central, Indian Creek, Steubenville and Toronto.

The Huskies welcome Buckeye Trail (1-0) to Wagner Field in Cadiz, while the Redskins entertain East Liverpool (0-1) at Kettlewell Memorial Stadium in Wintersville. Big Red travels to New Philadelphia (1-0); and the Red Knights host Lowellville (1-0).

The Warriors defeated Caldwell 21-19 last week. The Potters fell 20-13 to Carrollton. The Pilots fell 55-13 at North Robinson Colonel Crawford; the Quakers edged past Louisville, 12-7, and the Rockets outscored Columbiana, 51-38.

On Saturday, Paden City journeys to Zanesville to face the Foxfire Phoenix.
