Local Athletes Punch Ticket To Ohio State Track Meet
HEATH – Seven individuals from Ohio Valley Athletic Conference schools and another two relay teams punched their tickets to the Ohio Division III state track and field meet next weekend with qualifying efforts Friday at the regional meet at Heath High School.
The state meet will be held at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State University campus on June 6-7.
On the boys side, Steubenville Catholic’s Andrew Rohde is going in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. The senior placed second in both with times of 4-minutes, 16.69-seconds and 9:24.90, respectively. He was second in the state in the 1600 last spring.
Shenandoah’s Braxton Barnett is headed to Columbus in four events. The Zeps standout placed first in the 300 hurdles in a time of 37.61.
He was second in the 100 hurdles (14.62), the high jump (6-foot, 4-inches) and the long jump (22-8.25).
Caldwell’s Ethan Crock took fourth in the discus with a toss of 143-5.
The Bellaire 4×400 relay team placed fourth in a time of 3:29.49 while the Shenandoah 4×800 was fourth in 8:22.77.
On the girls side, Caldwell’s Gwyn Lori won the discus with a twirl of 142-6 and the shot put with a heave of 45-0.5. She is the defending state champ in the shot put. She was third in the discus last spring.
Teammate Camy Crock was fourth in the discus at 114-11.
Bellaire’s Alyson Vingia is returning to the state meet after placing second in the discus with a throw of 121-7.
River’s Brooke Huffman placed fourth in the 100 hurdles in 16.39.
