MARTINS FERRY – The Martins Ferry volleyball team kept up its red-hot play Wednesday night by sweeping visiting Barnesville high stop the Purple City inside Tolbert Gymnasium.

The Purple Riders (8-2) won for the eighth consecutive match by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-20.

Giana Chirpas led the way with 19 kills. Nicole Hammerquist added 11 kills while Olivia Harkness charted 37 assists. SJ Koller chipped in four service aces and two dozen digs. Maddie Lucas had nine digs.

Martins Ferry hosts St. Clairsville Thursday.

Wheeling Park Tops Field

MOUNDSVILLE – Wheeling Park collected a trio of victories Wednesday afternoon at the Moundsville Country Club in a quadrangular match.

The Patriots, led by medalist Andrew Pennybacker’s 73, shot 311, which was 20 shots better than John Marshall. Wheeling Central was third at 334. Linsly rounded out the event at 345.

Drew Marling led the Monarchs with a 76. The Maroon Knights’ Rowen Parker was low man at 81. Linsly’s Vinny Demarchi carded an 83.
