High School Roundup: Steubenville, Monarchs, Dragons Pick Up Wins

STEUBENVILLE – The Big Red girls’ basketball team keeps rolling along.

Steubenville scored first and led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter as Big Red led wire to wire en route to a 51-36 victory against Warren Friday night inside the Crimson Center.

The victors led by 20 (40-20) in the third and 20 (45-25) in the fourth.

Nylah McShan – one of four players to score in the game for the Red-and-Black – contributed a game-high 28 points, Lucy Saccoccia collected 14 and Bailee Beall tallied six on her two 3s.

Jayda Murray delivered a team-high 12 points for the girls from Washington County, while DeLaney Gates produced nine.

John Marshall 74, North Marion 28

FARMINGTON — The Monarchs knocked off the Huskies on Friday behind 23 points from Rilee Storm.

Kalyn Reese finished with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double. Kaylee White scored 11 for John Marshall to join her teammate in double figures. Paislee Babiczuk had 12 rebounds and seven points.

Cameron 59, Valley 23

CAMERON — The Dragons defended their den on Friday in a decisive victory over the Lumberjills.

Ten players scored for Cameron, with Kendra Thomas scoring a team-high 16. Kenzie Scott and Macey Bertram each contributed nine points.

Laken Dawson scored a game-high 20 points for Valley.

Buckeye 8 Placement Games

Cambridge 52, Buckeye Local 23

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Cami Moore scored 26 points herself as the Bobcats doubled up the Panthers for 11th place at the ECO Center.

Chastity Stewart led Buckeye Local with seven.

St. Clairsville 44, Brooke 38

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Anna Kain poured in 17 points and Elizabeth Morgan added 12 as the Red Devils claimed ninth place with their win over the Bruins in the ECO Center.

Brooke’s Keira Kosut finished with 17.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wheeling Central 79, North Marion 68

KIDWELL — The Maroon Knights improved to 9-0 with an impressive win over the No. 3 ranked AAA team at Tyler Consolidated as part of the Boggs Roundball Classic.

Senior Eli Sancomb was impressive once again with 34 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Luke Sancomb and Max Olejasz added 21 and 14, respectively.

The Knights take on host Tyler today at 3:30 p.m.

Shadyside 56, River 44

SHADYSIDE – The Tigers received 10 points from Michael Hendershot and nine more from Brandon O’Grady in their victory over the visiting Pilots.

River’s Evan Longwell led all scorers with 14. Peyton Weese had nine.

Harrison Central Gets Better Of Brooke

CADIZ — The Huskies boys and girls bowling squads bested Brooke on Friday inside J D Lanes.

BOYS

Harrison Central 1595, Brooke 1533

The Huskies’ top performer was Colston Kirkpaticks, who rolled a 366 series. Brooke’s Brady Yost rolled a 346 series.

GIRLS

Harrison Central 1516, Brooke 1234

Harrison Central was led by Jylis Byers, who rolled a 399 series. Brooke’s Chasity Steven was tops on her team with a 344 series.

River 56, Shadyside 41

HANNIBAL – Carleigh Trifonoff and Ava Wohnas each scored six points in the fourth quarter as the Pilots held off the Tigers in a nip-and-tuck affair inside the R.L. Potts Gymnasium.

Trifonoff finished with a game-high 19 points. Wohnhas added 16 and Zoey Fox 14.

Kaci Tsoras paced Shadyside with 14 points, three more than Cam Kolvek.
