WEST LIBERTY — West Liberty (11-3, 6-1 MEC) erased a six-point halftime deficit by pouring in 58 second-half points to claim a 94-83 Mountain East Conference victory over Glenville State (9-6, 4-4 MEC) on Wednesday night at the ASRC.

The Hilltoppers were dominant at the free-throw line, converting 27-of-35 attempts, while Glenville State relied heavily on its perimeter shooting, knocking down 11 three-pointers in the contest.

Glenville State struck first, opening the game with an early three-pointer from Elijah Redfern at the 19:21 mark. West Liberty countered with steady defensive pressure, recording 10 steals in the opening half to stay within striking distance. Despite trailing for much of the period, the Hilltoppers closed strong as Aiden Davis connected on back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minutes, trimming the deficit to 42-36 at halftime.

West Liberty wasted little time swinging momentum after the break. Davis drilled a 3-pointer at 15:49 to tie the game at 48, and Landon Butler followed with a layup just 31 seconds later to give the Hilltoppers their first lead of the night at 50-48. Davis struck again from long range at 14:13, pushing the advantage to 53-50.

The Hilltoppers continued to build separation by attacking the rim and converting at the free-throw line. Dante Spadafora knocked down back-to-back free throws at 11:33 to extend the lead to 61-56, and West Liberty closed the game with a steady parade to the stripe. The Hilltoppers outscored the Pioneers 58-41 in the second half to seal the 94-83 win.

Davis led all scorers with 25 points, connecting on 6-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc while adding two steals. Spadafora finished with 13 points, five assists, and two steals, while Butler chipped in nine points and four assists. Peter Lattos rounded out the effort with four points, four assists, and two steals.

West Liberty returns to conference play on Saturday, traveling to Concord for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Mountain Lions.

Vinskovich Shines For West Liberty Women

WEST LIBERTY – West Liberty put together a strong second-half effort but was unable to overcome turnovers in a 100-89 loss to Glenville State on Wednesday evening at the ASRC.

After being sidelined with injuries for most of her career, Union Local graduate Reagan Vinskovich lived up to her billing Wednesday night.

Vinskovich delivered a breakout performance, finishing with a game-high and career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds in her first extended playing time after battling injuries her first two seasons.

Anna Lucarelli added 16 points, nine assists, and two blocks, while Jameka Brungard scored 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and recorded three blocks.

Olivia Baker chipped in 14 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and dishing out four assists.

West Liberty will return to Mountain East Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Concord for a road matchup with the Mountain Lions.
