Stages Are Set For OVAC Spring Sport Tournaments
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The OVAC Championships heat up this week as champions in baseball, softball and tennis will be crowned.
BASEBALL
All semifinals will be played on Monday at the higher seeded team’s home field. All games are set to start at 5 p.m.
Morgantown (Class 5A), Indian Creek (Class 4A), Barnesville (Class 3A), Toronto (Class 2A) and Cameron (Class 1A) all earned the top seed in their respective division.
In Class 5A, No. 4 Wheeling Park travels to Mylan Park in Morgantown to face the Mohigans and No. 3 Steubenville visits Monarch Field in Glen Dale to meet No. 2 John Marshall.
In Class 4A, No. 4 Harrison Central heads to the John Muth Recreational Complex in Mingo to meet the top-seeded Redskins. Meanwhile, No. 3 Linsly heads to the Unified Sports Complex in Richmond to face second-seeded Edison.
In Class 3A, the Shamrocks welcome fourth-seeded Martins Ferry to Memorial Park in western Belmont County, while No. 3 Wheeling Central heads to Beverly to face second-seeded Fort Frye.
In Class 2A, the Red Knights host No. 4 Shadyside at the Knights Baseball Complex in the Gem City, and No. 2 Caldwell hosts No. 3 River.
In Class 1A, the Dragons host No. 4 Frontier while No. 2 Madonna welcomes No. 4 Trinity Christian to Edwin J. Bowman Field in Weirton.
The championship schedule will not be completed until all semifinal results are reported. However, there will be two games on Friday at Mazeroski Field in Cadiz at 5 and 7 p.m. Three games will be played at the Edison Unified Sports Complex in Richmond on Saturday at 11 a.m., 1:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
SOFTBALL
All games will be played at the I-470 J.B. Chambers Complex on the hilltop in Elm Grove.
Madonna (Class 1A), Caldwell (Class 2A), Martins Ferry (Class 3A), Beaver Local (Class 4A) and John Marshall (Class 5A) have all earned No. 1 seeds.
Monday’s semifinal action in Class 1A at 5 p.m. has No. 2 Conotton Valley and No. 3 Trinity Christian meeting on Field 4, with the top-seeded Blue Dons facing No. 4 Frontier at approximately 7.
In Class 2A on Field 3, No. 2 River and No. 3 Toronto meet at 5, with the top-seeded Redskins facing No. 4 Shadyside at approximately 7.
The Class 3A and Class 4A semifinals are set for Tuesday with No. 2 Monroe Central and No. 3 Wheeling Central colliding at 5 on Field 4. The top-seeded Purple Riders face No. 4 Columbiana at approximately 7, also on Field 4.
In Class 4A on Field 3, the top-seeded Beavers tangle with No. 4 Oak Glen at 5, with No. 2 Edison and No. 3 Weir tangling at approximately 7.
The Class 5A semifinals are set for Wednesday on Field 4 as No. 2 University and No. 3 Steubenville square off at 5. The top-seeded Monarchs welcome No. 4 Morgantown at approximately 7.
Championship games will be contested on Friday and Saturday at times to be determined.
TENNIS
All matches will be played at the John Marshall courts in Glen Dale, weather permitting, at 8:30 a.m..
Action begins Monday with girls doubles. Girls singles take to the court on Tuesday, with boys doubles on Wednesday and boys singles on Thursday.
In case of inclement weather, matches will be moved to the Bubble at Wheeling Park.
