Film Screening
A free screening of the film, "Heroin(e)," will be offered at 2 p.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Seventh Street and Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville. The two-hour event will include the film screening, an opioid panel discussion and educational tools.
Dance Lessons
Valley Rounds will begin dance lessons at the Triadelphia town hall from 6-7 p.m. Monday. Instruction will be given for cha-cha, waltz, two-step and other dances. Each participant must have a partner. For more information, call 304-242-0177 or 304-242-8690.
Lunch With Books
Lunch With Books' first program in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the completion of the National Road to Wheeling will feature historian Travis Henline. The program will be presented at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday.
Henline's presentation will focus on interesting, unusual and somewhat seedy anecdotes from the Old Pike's long and storied history.
Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; complimentary beverages are provided.
Program
"Dem Bones, Dem Bones," a presentation by the Schrader Environmental Education Center for children and adults, will be offered at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 6 p.m. Monday. The event is free and open to the public.
Pink Power Night
Pink Power Night will be held Tuesday in the meeting rooms on the lower level of East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with food, shopping and education. At 6:30 p.m., Shawn Ware, nurse practioner in oncology and hematology at Ohio Valley Medical Center, will give a presentation, "Family Secrets: Uncovering Your Genetic Cancer Risk."

Rockin' at the Ritz
Breast cancer survivors will be honored at the annual Rockin' at the Ritz event from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 11 in Wheeling Hospital's auditorium. Reservations are required by Monday and may be made by calling 304-243-6412.
Each attendee may bring a guest. Appetizers and desserts will be served. Among the activities planned are basket raffles, door prizes and entertainment. All proceeds support Wheeling Hospital cancer patients undergoing treatment.
Campfire Storytelling
Grand Vue Park in Moundsville will hold a free campfire storytelling event from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Aerial Adventure Base Camp, also known as Shelter 1. The family-friendly event features local storyteller Rich Knoblich.
Knoblich's appearance is sponsored by the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library. Campfire storytelling events also are planned at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 and Oct. 18. The events are free and open to the public.
Attendees may bring snacks and beverages. Benches are available in Shelter 1, but lawn chairs and blankets can be brought.
Retired Employees
The Brooke County Association of Retired School Employees will meet Oct. 9 at Follansbee Presbyterian Church. Toni Shute, superintendent of Brooke County Schools, will be the guest speaker. Lunch will be served at noon. Reservations must be made by calling Ruth Lewis at 304-737-2314 by Tuesday.
Fish Fry
A fish fry event will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 710 Jefferson Ave., Glen Dale, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Take-out meals also will be available. Call 304-845-2646 for local delivery if ordered by 10 a.m. for lunch and by 3 p.m. for dinner.
Performance
JoAnn Peterson of Kingwood will portray opera singer Jenny Lind at West Virginia Independence Hall, 1528 Market St., Wheeling, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Lind's birthday. The program is free and open to the public.
Lind, known as the Swedish Nightingale, was born on Oct. 6, 1820. Her travels included a stop in Wheeling, where she sang at Fourth Street Methodist Church.
From humble beginnings, she became a world-renowned opera singer whom Felix Mendelssohn called "the most gifted artist of the century." She inspired Hans Christian Andersen to pen "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Snow Queen," on which the movie "Frozen" was based.
Known for her philanthropy and great faith, Lind contributed to anti-slavery causes, the blind, widows and others. She was the first woman memorialized at Westminster Abbey's Poets' Corner.
In researching Lind, Peterson spent an afternoon in Brighton, England, with Lind's great-great-granddaughter during which she held her traveling case and music. She has been to Lind's birthplace in Stockholm, Sweden, and her grave in Malvern, England.
Quarter Auction
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Auxiliary 437, will hold a quarter auction at the VFW post home, 114 Grant Ave., Moundsville, at noon Saturday. Doors will be opened at 11 a.m.
The event is open to the public. Food, door prizes and a silent auction will be offered. Tickets may be purchased from vendors or auxiliary members.
Quarter Auction
The Civic League of Warwood will hold a quarter auction at Warwood School's gymnasium from 1-4 p.m. next Sunday. Doors will be opened at noon. Admission is charged.

Readings-Cemetery Walk
Victorian psychic readings will be held at the Belmont County Victorian Mansion Museum, 532 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, from 2-9 p.m. Oct. 13. Cemetery walks will be offered at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. that day.
Participants must be 21 or older. Light refreshments will be served. The program is for entertainment purposes only.

Brooke County Public Library patrons can join the largest global digital book club, Big Library Read, through the library. Author Visit
Author Melanie Burgess will visit the Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, on Wednesday. She will read her award-winning book, "Stinky Owl," at two special story times at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, will hold a pumpkin decorating contest at 5 p.m. Friday in connection with the Applefest. The contest is open to children in preschool through eighth grade. The library will be closed at that time; participants are asked to use the back entrance.
