Gary and Valerie Pickett of Bethlehem are celebrating their 40th anniversary today, Aug. 31.

They were united in marriage Aug. 31, 1974 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mount Olivet.

Valerie Pickett is the daughter of Angelo Jafrate and the late Teresa Skvarka Jafrate. She is a retired medical technologist at Wheeling Hospital.

Gary Pickett is the son of the late Kenneth and Phyllis Crow Pickett. He is a retired professor at West Virginia Northern Community College.

They have two sons. The family includes Adam and his wife, Jennifer, of Wheeling and Corey and his wife, Jakki, of Utica, N.Y. They have two grandchildren.

They will be celebrating the occasion with their family, followed by a trip to Greece.
