Jim and Wilma Collins of Wheeling celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday, Sept. 11.
They were united in marriage Sept. 11, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Wheeling, with the Rev. Edmond Kohler officiating.
Wilma Holler Collins graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. After marriage, she ceased secretarial work and concentrated solely on rearing their family of four.
Jim Collins, being six years older, saw combat military service in the Marine Corps during World War II. After military service, he attended and graduated from Bethany College. During his 50 years of employment, he held executive sales positions with three tri-state national corporations, retiring at age 70.
They are the parents of four children, Timothy of Downington, Pa.; Kirk of Wheeling; Scott of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Stacey of Vienna, Va. They have four grandsons, seven granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
Their 60th wedding anniversary party celebration was arranged and directed by their children. The celebration took place in July because of the grandchildren being in various levels of schooling during September.
