Douglas and Peggy Smith of Wheeling celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Feb. 14.

They were united in marriage Feb. 14, 1965 at First Baptist Church in Wheeling by the Rev. Walter D. Hickman.

Peggy Smith is the daughter of the late John and Gladys Ferguson of Peterstown, W.Va. She is a retired legal secretary, having worked at the Hollandsworth law office for 33 years.

Douglas Smith is the son of the late Douglas Smith Sr. and Helen Smith. He retired from Verizon in 1998. Currently, he is a part-time employee of the Wheeling Park Commission.

They are the parents of a son. The family includes Michael Smith and his wife, Dannie, of Mount Olivet and six grandchildren.

They celebrated their anniversary with a private family dinner.
