John and Mattie Cooper of Washington Lands, Moundsville, celebrated their 70th anniversary on Thursday, March 31.

They were united in marriage on March 31, 1946, at Gurley Methodist Church, Gurley, Ala., followed by a reception at the bride’s home.

Mattie Cooper is the daughter of the late Luke and Bessie Armstrong. She was an assistant to Dr. M.W. Isiminger in Moundsville.

John Cooper is the son of the late John and Mattie E. Cooper and is retired form Solvay/Allied Chemical South Plant, Moundsville.

They have two daughters: Beth (Ron) Daugherty of Moundsville and Jane (John) Lewis of Winchester, Va., who celebrated their 32nd anniversary the same day. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild complete the family.
