Bonars Celebrate 60th

Mary Jean and James L. Bonar of Wellsburg are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

They were married July 14, 1956, in the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsburg with the Rev. Conrad Steinbrenner officiating.

James Bonar is retired from Weirton Steel, serves Grove United Presbyterian Church of West Middletown, Pa., as treasurer of Christian education and a choir member, and is president of the board of directors of Franklin Cemetery Association.

Mary Jean Bonar is retired from teaching piano and serves as director of music at Grove Church, which includes directing the vocal choir, handbell choir and as principle musician for worship. She is a published author, having written “The West Hope Trilogy.” She is a past state president of West Virginia Philanthropic Educational Organization and current president of the Weirton chapter.

They are the parents of four children: Diane Elizabeth, deceased; Carol Jean Couch of Wheeling; Russell William Bonar of Fairbanks, Alaska; and Marianne K. Cunningham of Wellsburg. They have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

To celebrate, the church choirs will provide special music as family and friends gather for worship Sept. 25, and they will be honored with a family-sponsored reception following the service.
