David Javersak of Wheeling will visit Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday to read the dictionary and talk about various types of dictionaries. The program is free and open to the public.
The People’s University series, “Wheeling in Literature,” at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 7 p.m. Tuesday will feature Wheeling-born playwright Sean O’Leary, who will discuss “The State of My State (and City).” The program is free and open to the public.
Miriam Chapter 1, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at Monument Place, 91 Kruger St., Wheeling, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members are asked to donate instant oatmeal for a backpack project. A Thanksgiving covered-dish dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and drinks will be provided. Karen Muldrew will serve dessert after the meeting.
Island Garden Club
The Island Garden Club will meet at Wheeling Country Club at noon Thursday. After lunch, Carol Ramser will review the book, “Amish Confidential” by Ellis Henican and Lebanon Levi.

Holiday Vendor Sale
A holiday vendor sale will be held at Elmhurst, The House of Friendship, 1228 National Road, Wheeling, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday with 21 vendors. Admission and parking are free. Visitors are to enter at the rear of the building.
Jarrod Irwin, regional consumer health coordinator from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, will present a program, “Find the Facts! Health Information and You,” at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 11 a.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.
Magnolia High School’s Relay for Life and art department will hold an Empty Bowls fundraiser in the school cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. Friday. A variety of soups will be served; guests will receive a hand-crafted ceramic bowl.
The Weir High School Drama Club will perform the play, “Superheroes!” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. next Sunday. Younger audience members will have a chance to meet and greet their favorite superheroes after the show. Tickets will be sold at the door.
