Wheeling AARP

Wheeling AARP Chapter 824 will hold a luncheon and meeting Thursday at Wheeling Park. Members are register by 11 a.m. To make the required reservation, call 304-242-9452 today.

President Wayne Cunningham will preside. A book exchange will continue; local vendors will be on hand. Doug Pettit will provide entertainment.

Lunch With Books

David Javersak of Wheeling will visit Lunch With Books at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at noon Tuesday to read the dictionary and talk about various types of dictionaries. The program is free and open to the public.

People’s University

The People’s University series, “Wheeling in Literature,” at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th St., Wheeling, at 7 p.m. Tuesday will feature Wheeling-born playwright Sean O’Leary, who will discuss “The State of My State (and City).” The program is free and open to the public.

Eastern Star

Miriam Chapter 1, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at Monument Place, 91 Kruger St., Wheeling, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members are asked to donate instant oatmeal for a backpack project. November birthdays will be celebrated. Carolyn Nortemann, worthy matron, and Jim Shannon, worthy patron, will preside.

A Thanksgiving covered-dish dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and drinks will be provided. Karen Muldrew will serve dessert after the meeting.

Island Garden Club

The Island Garden Club will meet at Wheeling Country Club at noon Thursday. After lunch, Carol Ramser will review the book, “Amish Confidential” by Ellis Henican and Lebanon Levi.

Members are to bring items for Salvation Army stockings. Hostesses are Janet Nixon and Wilda Kocher. For more information, call 304-242-8732.

Maple Sugar

Family Roots Farm representatives will present a maple sugar lesson at the Marshall County extension office from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. There is a cost to attend.

Thanksgiving Orders

The Dally Memorial Library in Sardis is taking orders for pecan pies, pumpkin pies, pumpkin rolls and dinner rolls. Orders must be placed by Wednesday by visiting the library or calling 740-483-1288. Orders may be picked up at Citizens National Bank, Sardis, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 27.

Holiday Vendor Sale

A holiday vendor sale will be held at Elmhurst, The House of Friendship, 1228 National Road, Wheeling, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday with 21 vendors. Admission and parking are free. Visitors are to enter at the rear of the building.

Health Program

Jarrod Irwin, regional consumer health coordinator from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, will present a program, “Find the Facts! Health Information and You,” at the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, 700 Fifth St., at 11 a.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.

Empty Bowls

Magnolia High School’s Relay for Life and art department will hold an Empty Bowls fundraiser in the school cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. Friday. A variety of soups will be served; guests will receive a hand-crafted ceramic bowl.

Play

The Weir High School Drama Club will perform the play, “Superheroes!” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. next Sunday. Younger audience members will have a chance to meet and greet their favorite superheroes after the show. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Family Read Week

In observance of West Virginia Family Read Week, the Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, will offer crafts from 4-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3-5 p.m. Friday.

Family Movie Night

The Brooke County Public Library, 844 Main St., Follansbee, will show “The Angry Birds Movie 2,” rated PG, at 5 p.m. Tuesday. To reserve a seat, call 304-527-0860.

Crocheting Group

The book club of the Brooke County Public Library, 945 Main St., Wellsburg, will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday to discuss “When the Men Were Gone” by Marjorie Herrera. Participants will receive the January book, “The Complete Maus: I & II” by Art Spiegelman, at this meeting. The book club is free and open to the public.

Jerry’s Walk, Illuminating Suicide Awareness, will hold an International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event at the Ohio Valley Mall’s community room in St. Clairsville from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. There is no cost to attend this event.
