Crack Dealer Pleads Guilty in Federal Court

Anton Demetrius Matthews, 32, of Cleveland pleaded guilty to crack cocaine distribution in federal court, according to U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld II.

Matthews pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate James E. Seibert to one count of distribution of cocaine base within 1,000 feet of a protected location.

He admitted to selling crack cocaine on Wheeling Island near Madison Elementary School.

Matthews faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $2 million.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Perri prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Ohio Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force investigated.

In an unrelated case, Scott Garcia, 21, of New York pleaded guilty before Seibert to possessing multiple counterfeit credit and debit cards.

Garcia pleaded guilty to one count of fraud related to access devices.

He admitted to possessing 15 or more counterfeit devices, including fraudulently produced Western Union netSpend MasterCard debit cards, gift cards fraudulently obtained from various retail merchants and stolen credit card numbers in Ohio County.

He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Perri prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The United States Secret Service and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department investigated.
