IDA McGUANE

She was born on July 23, 1925, in West Bethlehem Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and grew up there on her parent’s dairy farm with 10 brothers and sisters.

In 1943, Ida graduated from Trinity High School in Washington, Pennsylvania, and shortly thereafter went to work at a factory making hand grenades for the war effort.

She married Michael J. McGuane on May 25 1949, in Washington, Pennsylvania. In 1950, the family moved to West Virginia. Ida spent most of her life in Pine Grove where she and her husband, Mike, raised their five sons. Later, Ida lived in Wheeling for a number of years and most recently in Morgantown.

In her younger years, Mrs. McGuane devoted all of her energies raising her family. Ida was a wonderful wife and mother. In later years, she loved gardening, watching old movies especially musicals, and taking car drives with her son, Denny.

Her parents, Orris Perry Bigler and Helen Mae Schrontz Bigler; her husband, Michael McGuane; her son, Dennis McGuane; her brothers, Albert Bigler , who was killed in World War II, and William Bigler; her sisters, Lydia Wonsettler, Esther Jean Theakston, Marjorie Faye Riggle, Rita Murphy, and Edith Bigler predeceased her.

She is survived by her children, Patrick McGuane of Pine Grove, Francis McGuane of Cincinnati, Ohio, John Douglas McGuane and his wife, Jean, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Michael McGuane and his wife, Cathy, of Key Biscayne, Florida; brothers, Carl Bigler and Gary Bigler and his wife, Roseann, of Washington, Pennsylvania; and her sister, Mary Franks, of Cortland, Ohio, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Ida was a life long member of Lone Pine Christian Church in Lone Pine, Pennsylvania.
